Edison Sailing Center Summer Programs 2024

For more than a quarter of a century, ESC has offered summer programs that not only teach the basics of sailing or powerboating but also reinforce life skills of cooperation, teamwork, and communication.

Sailing instruction is offered at all levels: from beginner to advanced, with an emphasis on safe boat handling skills and knowledge. State law requires anyone born after January 1, 1988, to complete a Boater Education course to operate a powerboat of 10hp or more. ESC offers two types of boater education programs focusing on the 30+ on-the-water skills. We also offer High School sailing and encourage students to form &/or join sailing clubs in local schools.

Sailing programs are taught in age-appropriate and developmentally-appropriate boats.

  • Classes are held at the Edison Sailing Center, North Shore Park, just over the US41 bridge in N. Ft. Myers
  • Courses are taught by US Sailing Association certified instructors & trained volunteers
  • Students must be able to swim and should bring a labeled reusable water bottle, sunscreen and a hat &/or sunglasses.
  • Students should wear clothing – and shoes – that can get wet. No sandals or flip-flops.
  • Instructors have the discretion to provide alternative activities on no-wind mornings, e.g. kayaking  or STEM activities
  • Because we cannot shelter in place as an entire group, if storms arise, parents will need to pick up their children.
  • Sailing classes are for 8-13 year olds, exceptions: HS 420 and Minnows
  • Powerboat classes are for 10-13 year olds
  • Limited scholarships available
  • Adventure powerboat class is for 11-13 year olds *must show proof of NASBLA/Bobber Card prior to July 1
