Our History
Four decades of building sailors and character
The Beginning
Edison Sailing Center was founded in 1983—originally as the Royal Palm Sailing Club—with a mission to bring sailing opportunities to Southwest Florida's youth using donated boats.
Community Growth
Community enthusiasm quickly expanded the program to year-round instruction.
Fort Myers Home
In 1992, the City of Fort Myers leased a waterfront location adjacent to Centennial Park in the River District, where the program became the Edison Sailing Center.
Our Legacy
Today, Edison maintains a fleet of more than 250 boats and operates as an accredited community sailing center. We are committed to ensuring that children—especially those who might not otherwise have access—can experience the joy, confidence, and life skills that come from learning to sail.
Supporting Our Mission
Our programs are supported through program fees, donations (both monetary and in-kind), and other funding sources that help keep sailing accessible to our community.
